specializing in College, Young Adult and Adolescent Therapeutic Placements

Oakes Hunnewell founded Hunnewell Education Group in 2009 after fifteen years of working with adolescents and young adults. Born and raised in Paris, France, Oakes earned a B.A. in Political Science from Syracuse University before moving to Washington, DC to work for the Office of then Majority Leader, Congressman Richard Gephardt.

His educational career began in 1994 in Millbrook, NY where he taught French, history and third grade science at Dutchess Day School. In 1998, Oakes earned a Masters in School Administration from Harvard University. While at Harvard, he worked extensively with Shackleton Schools, an experiential-education secondary school in Massachusetts, developing curricula for its first year of operation.

Subsequently, Oakes taught French at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, MD, where he also served on the admissions committee, was an advisor to the junior class, and coached the boys’ tennis team. While at St. Andrew’s, Oakes started an exchange program with L’École des Roches, a boarding school in Normandy, France.

David Zindell

Director of Writing and Test Prep—

specializing in application writing, SAT, ACT, SSAT and ISEE test preparation

David has been an internationally bestselling author, publishing ten novels celebrating people’s potential for brilliance. About his work, The Times Literary Supplement said, "Zindell has placed himself at the forefront of literary SF." His first love, though, was mathematics. He scored perfectly on the SAT and received a BA in mathematics from the University of Colorado before turning to writing and then teaching. He has held workshops to help upcoming writers develop their talent; he has also taught algebra, geometry, precalc, and calculus to students at a Denver private school and coached analysts at a top Denver investment bank. As a test prep coach, he began teaching the GRE and GMAT at an international language school in Denver.  His hundreds of students have come from all over the world, from Mongolia to Morocco, from Columbia to Colorado. As he watched more and more of them ace their SATs and ACTs and get into their first choice schools, he came to see that his deeper reason for wanting to teach and write books is really the same. All of his novels concern evolution and the infinite possibilities of the human race, and he believes in our power to learn without bound and to make ourselves into better, brighter beings. He’ll do pretty much anything legal to help his students find creative ways to learn more effectively and to have at least a little fun. When not busy teaching or writing, he enjoys playing the Native American Flute, hiking Colorado’s beautiful mountains, and hanging out with his brilliant daughters.

Placements

Chris Overbye joined the Hunnewell Education Group in the fall of 2010 after spending 20 years as a teacher and administrator at several leading independent day and boarding schools across New England. Before joining Hunnewell, Chris worked as the Director of Admissions at Dexter and Southfield Schools. There he managed the expansion of the K-12 enrollment. He helps set goals for each applicant and understands the unique educational opportunities available at each school are essential to the private school placement process.

After attending Indian Mountain School and Salisbury School, he earned a degree from Allegheny College and is currently completing his MLS at Wesleyan University. Chris and his wife Leslie, who teaches at the Fay School, live in the greater Boston area with their 14-year-old daughter and their two labrador retrievers.
